Activity

Research activity:
In order to evaluate the dynamics of storage, transport to the surface and ascent dynamics of a magma as well as the eruptive style to surface it is necessary to know the thermodynamic conditions (P, T, phase equilibria relationships) of magmas at equilibrium and disequilibrium stage within the Earth crust. Such a knowledge requires experimental petrology studies to be carried on between 0 and 5 kbars and the necessity to build up the adequate experimental devices. IN recent years at the GeomatLab – Unito and thanks to the collaboration with the IGc (Istituto de Geociencias) – USP (Universidade de Sao Paulo) ed the Earth Sciences department of the UniRoma 1 it has been possible to implement new instrumentation due to investigate the petrochemical evolution of magmas of interest for the volcanology.
