Combined use of geophysical, pedological and remote sensing techniques for precision viticulture.

Precision agriculture is a growing trend that combines spatial data sets, state of the art in agricultural machinery technology, GIS, and GPS receivers to support spatially variable application of fertilizers and pesticides. This approach overcomes the paradigm of uniform treatment of the soil with the acquisition of specific data for each site defining its local variability. The scope of the work is to test and develop, in this context, a combination of geophysical methods, soil and remote sensing techniques dedicated to the definition of revised planning for precision viticulture. In particular geophysical methods based on measurement of the electrical conductivity can be used profitably; a cluster analysis based on evidence of geophysical tests, data detection from pedological and remote sensing methods can be performed to identify homogenous areas of the soil. The study has shown that the approach used is suitable for mapping and understanding of anomalies in the distribution of the ground that are relevant for the quality and effectiveness of wine production. Therefore its wider application in the wine area of Langhe, can be evaluated and recommended
