    ATTIVITÀ DI RICERCA E CAMPI DI INTERESSE

    Il Prof. Carosi è specializzato in geologia strutturale e tettonica dei continenti, con particolare riguardo all'evoluzione di catene orogeniche moderne ed antiche. Le aree di interesse spaziano dall'Himalaya, Tibet, Antartide, Cina meridionale, Albania, Spagna fino alla Sardegna e all'Appennino Settentrionale.

    Lo scopo delle ricerche comprende la comprensione della (1) crescita e collasso degli orogeni, (2) tettonica transpressiva continentale, (3) deformazione, metamorfismo ed esumazione delle rocce profonde e (4) deformazione e cinematica delle zone di alto-strain.

    La competenza del Prof. Carosi si colloca nella Tettonica, Geologia Regionale e cartografia geologica di sintesi e di dettaglio e nell'Analisi strutturale, comprendente l'analisi delle microstrutture, degli affioramenti e della scala regionale. L'Analisi strutturale è realizzata tramite analisi delle microstrutture, delle relazioni tra deformazione e metamorfismo, analisi della deformazione finita e della vorticità cinematica e del flusso. Recentemente sono stati intrapresi studi quantitativi con l'ausilio della modellazione numerica delle zone di taglio ad alto-strain e un approccio matematico alla deformazione.

    Il Prof. Carosi è principalmente orientato a studi basati sulla analisi di terreno volti ai processi di deformazione duttile e fragile, alla evoluzione di zone di taglio crostali e faglie,  allo sviluppo strutture associate, alle relazioni tra pieghe e faglie e alla cartografia geologica. Si interessa anche della applicazione della geocronologia U-Th-Pb e 40Ar/39Ar alla tettonica continentale.

    Il Prof. Carosi è attualmente interessato alla evoluzione tettono-metamorfica del Cristallino dell'Alto Himalaya e della Successione Sedimentaria Tibetana nell'Himalaya centrale, con particolare attenzione ai modelli e ai tempi di esumazione delle unità cristalline. E'anche coinvolto in progetti di ricerca sull'evoluzione tettonica dell'Orogene di Ross in Antartide e delle unità dell'Appennino Settentrionale ed ha lavorato a lungo sul basamento Varisico sud-europeo.
